Born a citzen of England, a member of the New Jersey colony of England.

Enlisted in the Continental Army at age 14. He was granted 5000 acres in the Rolling Fork Valley about 18 miles from Bardstown for his service. Rolling Fork, KY, later named Stiles, KY, later named Howardstown, KY. He and his family moved there in 1809.58

Had ten children born in NJ, eleventh child born in KY but died young.58.

Original headstone was marked D.S. 1760-1839. D.A.R. erected a memorial mrker at his grave August 3, 1941.58
