Mrs. W. W. Greenwell Dies Monday at 92
Mrs. Helene Ballard Greenwell, 92, widow of the late W.W. Greenwell, died Monday afternoon [September 23, 1940] at her home near the depot in Bardstown of injuries resulting from a fall about three months ago. She would have been 93 in November. She is survived by ten children, Howard, Rodney, Tom & Russell Greenwell, Mrs. James Hutchins, Mrs. John Hutchins, Mrs. J.D. Cross, Mrs. William Mattingly, Mrs. Willis Ballard and Mrs. Russell Biven, all of Bardstown; 57 grandchildren, 212 great-grandchildren and 42 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock at St. Joseph Church, Bardstown, Rev. James H. Willett, the pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were six of her grandsons, Olie Hutchins, J.P. Ballard, Howard Greenwell Jr., Willie Hutchins, Hubert Greenwell and R.K. Greenwell.

W. W. GREENWELL PASSES SUNDAY - 10 CHILDREN, 200 GRAND AND GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN SURVIVE HIM - Mr. W. W. Greenwell, age 78 years, died at his home in Bardstown Sunday afternoon following an illness of weeks resulting from cancer of the stomach. Mr. Greenwell was in many ways a remarkable man. His loyalty to his family was very marked and his even temper and business ability was out of the ordinary. For many years he was a leading figure in the Balltown section of the county. His industry and good business judgment enabled him to rear a large family and also accumulate considerable estate. For several years he served as U. S. distillery guard. Mr. and Mrs. Greenwell celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary, April 26, 1927. His survivors are his wife, who was formerly Miss Helen Ballard, of Holy Cross; six daughters, Mrs. James Hutchins, Mrs. John Hutchins, Mrs. Willis Ballard, Mrs. Gusta Cecil, Mrs. J. D. Cross and Mrs. Russel Biven; and four sons, Esquires Howard and Rodney, and Russell and Thomas Greenwell; seventy grandchildren and 130 great-grandchildren. Messrs. Howard and Rodney Greenwell were faithful magistrates of the county for a number of years, and Russell Greenwell served as coroner. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at nine o'clock with requiem high Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Rev. W. D. Pike officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery. Buried, 6-03-1930, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bardstown, Ky.
