In 1896 a publication titled “The Nelson County Historical Record” says that in 1776 Wattie Boone, a relative of Daniel and Squire Boone settled where Knon Creek runs into the Rolling Fork and in 1780 Boone began the manufacture of whiskey for sale. This would make Wattie Boone the first distiller to manufacture whiskey in Kentucky. Later in 1814, when Thomas Lincoln moved to Knob Creek, he was employed by the Boone Distillery and worked there until moving his family to Indiana. There is no actual evidence that Watty Boone, a Catholic from Maryland, was any relation to Daniel Boone, a Protestant from Pennsylvania.
