Susan first married Samuel A. Beckham (1827 – 1854), 3 February 1848, when she was 18 yrs of age.

in 1880 census, she was widowed, with 3 children. Her niece, Sadie Pence, housekeeper, is listed with her family.

Lived with her daughter at the time of her death according to death certificate. Fractured her hip in home by falling down stairs and never recovered.

Lewis Ogden Stiles wrote “To his friends he was kind and true, and no favor asked, great or small, was ever refused. He never did any human being knowingly a wrong.”

Uncle “Ogden,” as he was called, was fond of the little folk.70

His first wife, Lizzie Phillips, was his sister’s stepdaughter.
