AUGUSTUS CECIL SUCCUMBS FRIDAY - FATHER OF LARGE FAMILY - 37 GRANDCHILDREN ARE AMONG SURVIVORS
Mr. Augustus Cecil, aged 66 years, died Friday evening [February 3, 1933] at 5:30 o'clock at his home, three miles from Balltown, after an illness of three months. Mr. Cecil was the father of a large family, and among his survivors are thirty-seven grandchildren. Other survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ginnie Cecil; nine sons, Andrew, Will, Rhoda, Fea & Herbert Cecil, all of Bardstown; George Cecil, Louisville; and Jesse Cecil, Holy Cross; one daughter, Mrs. Will Fogle, Bardstown; two sisters, Mrs. Hickman Wheeler and Mrs. John Wayne; and one brother, Robert Cecil. A second daughter, Mrs. Ross Wimpsett, died six years ago. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at 9 o'clock with requiem high Mass by Rev. J.J. Fitzgibbon. Interment followed in St. Thomas Cemetery.

His headstone shows the year of birth as 1867. The 1900 census shows 1866 as does his death certificate.

MRS. JENNIE MATTINGLY, 92, DIES, RITES AT ST. THOMAS - Mrs. Jennie V. Mattingly, 92, died at the home of her son, Fea Cissell, Rt. 3, Bardstown, Saturday, December 18, at 3 P.M. She had been bedfast for 13 months. Born near Holy Cross, she spent her entire life in Nelson County. Twice married, her second husband, Willie Mattingly, died four years ago. She was first married to Gustie Cecil, who died many years ago. Survivors are eight sons, Fea Cissell and Willie Cecil, of Bardstown; Jesse Cecil, Holy Cross; Rody Cecil, Buechel; George, Richard, Charlie and Herbert Cecil, all of Louisville; one daughter, Mrs. Will Fogle, Louisville; a brother, Tom Greenwell, Bardstown; also a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, with Requiem Mass at 10 A.M. at St. Thomas Church, near Bardstown. Rev. Harold Smith, Louisville, a step-grandson, (son of Mrs. Fea Cissell), was celebrant of the Mass. Interment was in St. Thomas Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. The body was at the Mann, Greenwell & Arnold Funeral Home. Buried, 12-21-1965, in St. Thomas Cemetery, Nelson Co., Ky.
