Misc. Notes
In the 1860 Larue county census, Alex was family 653. He lived next door to his father. He was 28 years old. his wife, Jane, was 23. The children were: Unis, 4; Henritta, 2; and S. J., age 6 months.
Church records of the Mt. Moriah Church gave the following account;
Members were excluded when they couldn't get along with each other. For example, a family spat occurred in 1861 between Alexander Benningfield, on one side, and Malissa Whitlow, Mary Whitlow Benningfield and Daniel Benningfield on the other. Not really knowing what the differences were about, it seems that Daniel Benningfield, his 2nd wife, and his step-daughter decided they could "not live" in the same church with Alexander. Since Alexander was willing to try to make up and the others wouldn't try, the church voted to exclude the three. So the Church lost a deacon, but kept its clerk. Malissa Whitlow later rejoined the Church after she married James M. Hall. Daniel Benningfield and his wife took their membership elsewhere. So it went in those early days at Mt. Moriah Church.
In the 1870 Larue County Census for the Magnolia District, Alexander Benningfield was family 32. He was 37 years old and his wife, Mary J., was 36. The children were: Ann, 13; Henrietta, 12; Sarah J., 10; Anna B., 9; Missouri, 6; and Stephen P., age 4 years.
In the 1880 Larue County Census for the Magnolia district, Mary Jane was head of household 76. She was 42 years old. The children still at home were: M. E., 22; M. B., 16; Steven P., 14.
