Misc. Notes
Our beloved father James Robert Boone (Boonie) passed away peacefully on April 17, 2019 with his wife of 63 years Rita Kelly Boone, his children and Fr. Chris, from Prince of Peace at his bedside.

He was at born at home on June 9, 1929 in New Haven, KY to Emmett and Mary Lottie Boone. He is one of seven children who were raised and worked on the farm in Big Lick Holler, KY.

Boonie severed in the U S Army in Germany from 1953 to 1955. After receiving a Dear John letter he returned home and spent a month sweet-talking his beloved Rita into agreeing to marry him. They married October 29, 1955 six months after his return. The young couple set up house in Bardstown, KY and he worked at Barton’s Whiskey Distillery.

In 1957 he and his wife decided to move to Madison where he took a leap of faith and started Boonies Blue Flame Gas Business, faithfully delivering heating fuel all over the region, at all times of day and night, in all types of weather for twenty three years. In 1963 he added the water filtration service to his business better known as Boonies Water Company. He had the foresight to see the need for quality water and how it could improve lives. He established an exclusive relationship with Hague Quality Water Equipment and proceeded to simultaneously win over the hearts of thousand of residential customers and winning too many salesmanship and quality workmanship awards to mention. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, the National Water Quality Association and Indiana Quality Association. He was requested by Hague to be the sales representative for the states of IN, KY and TN. He was also a Water Quality Association Certified Dealership. The company has been handed over to his son Joe and is still in operation today.

Boonie was an active member of the community with years of involvement with the Catholic Schools and Church of Madison.

Boonie was a member of The Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, Moose Lodge and the old Madison Country Club. He had a special interest of the Elks Lodge which awarded him the special honor of the Kentucky Colonel for his lifetime of service and generosity.

Things that Boonie Enjoyed:

Boonie was a social man enjoying his Faith, Family and Friends in which he was true to until the end. The weekends were occupied with long horseback rides on his favorite horse Little Bit (sometimes known as “you S.O.B.”).

He loved going to the Tennessee Walking Horse shows with Louis Kelly, Troy Bailey and his youngest son Todd; enjoying the horses, the barn, the camaraderie and the showmanship.

He loved his garden and he loved watching people work in his garden in his later years as he sat in the shade and took a nap.

For years he enjoyed floating the river on a pontoon boat with a vodka tonic, good music and friends while watching a beautiful sunset.

One of his favorite places to visit was their cabin over in KY. Boonie and his wife Rita entertained family and friends and more raccoons than they wanted!!!!!
