MELZER, DERRICK JOHN, Derrick, beloved husband of Sarah Jane Peake Melzer, passed into his eternal life at the age of 69 on December 31, 2013 in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Derrick is survived by his wife, Sarah Jane; his sons, Marc (Jenna) of Oakland, CA, and Nathan and Nick (Robin) Melzer of Louisville; and four grandsons, Zen, Tye, Ethan and Finn Melzer.
He was born in Chicago, worked for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority and previously owned and operated the Arbor Rose Bed and Breakfast in Bardstown, KY. He was a photographer, student of Tai Chi, an artist, wine connoisseur and maker, basket weaver, conversationalist extraordinaire and he served in the Army during Vietnam. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in his home. The family graciously thanks Norton Brownsboro Hospital and Jefferson Manor for their care and consideration in his time of need.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Pancreatic Cancer Research or Hosparus of Louisville.
