Former Com. Atty. Shelby Howard is dead
Former Commonwealth Attorey Shelby M. Howard, 115 Phillips Lane, Hodgenville, died Thursday, January 14, 1982, at Norton's Hospital in Louisville, after an illness. He was 78. 
An active member of the democratic party throughout his life, Howard served as Larue County Attorney for 13 years before his 1950 appointment as Commonwealth's Attorney for the newly-created district of Larue, Hart, Nelson, and Bullitt Counties, a post he held until his retirement in 1974. 
Howard was a 1928 graduate of Jefferson School of Law in Louisville.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelby Szygenda, of Plano, Texas; a grandson, Andy Szygenda, also of Plano; one sister, Nell Kirkpatrick of Sunrise Manor, Hodgenville; and a brother, Leland Howard of Charlottesville, Virginia. 
Burial was Sunday in Red Hil Cemetery, Hodgenville. No formal funeral service was held.
