JAMES H. "HARRY" HICKS, 86, Bardstown, formerly of New Haven, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was born in Louisville, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, in which he was a POW and received the Purple Heart, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Howardstown, and the VFW. He was a retired New Haven postmaster with 25 years of service and a farmer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Thomas; a grandson; his parents, Mont Edward and Edna Elizabeth Watson Hicks; a sister, Elizabeth Werner; and a brother, John Joseph Hicks. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Mary Boone Hicks, Bardstown; six daughters, Barbara Hall, New Haven; Annette Kute, Bardstown; Sylvia Head, Simpsonville; Larene Hughes, Crestwood; Mary Jane Reece, Cox's Creek; and Joyce Gardner, Louisville; two sons, Joe Hicks, Bardstown; and James Hicks, Ashland City, Tenn; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Hicks, Glendale, WVa; and Fred Hicks, Florence; and a sister, Madeleine Bianco, Tucson, Ariz. The funeral was 11 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church with burial in St. Catherine Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jeffrey Leger officiated. Full military honors were provided by the U.S. Army. Pallbearers were Jeff Hicks, Timmy Shanks, Brian Hughes, Rob Head, Matthew Hall, Ryan Kute, Tyler Kute and Joe Hardin Werner. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Bullock Jr., Pike Conway, Paul Vittitow, Harold Vittitow, Irvin Vittitow, Errol Johnson, John Newcombe, Joe Fred Bowling, Dennis Bowling, Michael Bowling, Patrick Bowling, Bobby Hicks and Jerry Werner. Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Mary Hicks, 90, formerly of New Haven, died Friday, August 6, 2010, at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born June 14, 1920, in Howardstown, She was a homemaker and farmer and a member of St. Vincent DePaul, Nazareth, and the Basilica of the St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown and a former member of St. Ann Church in Howardstown. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harry Hicks; a daughter, Patricia Thomas; a grandson, Patrick Hall; her parents, James Franklin & Susie Mattingly Boone; two sisters, Agnes Boone and Catherine Wine; and five brothers, Louis Boone, Anthony "Soup" Boone, the Rev. Lawrence Boone, John Boone, Delime Boone and James "Jimmy" Boone. Survivors include six daughters, Joyce (Bob) Gardner, Louisville, Barbara Hall, Bardstown; Annette (Kenny) Kute, Bardstown; Sylvia (Lynn Beiswenger) Head, Simpsonville; Lorene (Bobby) Hughes Crestwood, Mary Jane (Wayne) Reece, Cox's Creek; two sons, James (Evelyn) Hicks, Ashland City, TN, and Joe Hicks, Bardstown; sister Theresa Hargadon, Memphis TN;19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Adolph Boone, Howardstown; and a special nephew. Joe Hardin Werner. The funeral Mass was 11 A.M. Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, New Haven, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Troy Overton and the Rev. Bill Hammer were celebrants. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society. Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
