His father, James Baptist Thompson, willed him two negro slaves. A woman, Pol, (who is the wife of Nace,) and her son, Gusta. Pol was originally owned by Ignatious Middleton, Eleanor’s brother, and was acquired in a swap with him by James Baptist Thompson.

“Lincolns Birth County” by Edward Benningfield, says that Ignatius was the son of William Thompson, and that he had 2 brothers named Thomas W. and Bartholomew Thompson.
