One of the saddest deaths that I have had to chronicle in several years occurred today the seventh at about two o'clock. It is the death of Mrs. Amanda Boone, wife of J. L. Boone, of the firm of Boone & Whelan. Mrs. Boone was before her marriage, Miss Amanda Whelan, daughter of Richard Whelan, deceased. Mrs. Boone was one of the four children of Mrs. Eliza Whelan; the other three, John, Tom and Laura; the last mentioned having died several years ago, of the same fatal disease, consumption, that carried off Mrs. Boone, so of the four John is the only surviving child of Mrs. Whelan. Mrs. Boone was forty-five years of age. Was married to Josie L. Boone in the year of 1892 and of that union there were born six children, five of whom survive her. Besides these children, she is survived by her husband, her mother and brother, John. Mrs. Boone had been an invalid for some time and had been gradually sinking until the end. She bore her sickness and suffering with christian patience and fortitude, knowing as she did that she could never regain her health. She was one of the most lovable of women, with the kindest disposition. Loved by her husband, idolized by her children and respected and cherished by her neighbors. To the bereaved husband and all but heart-broken children, I can safely say all extend sympathy. Having been one of my pupils in by gone days, to her memory I offer this small tribute: Thou art gone, our mother dear, To thy home beyond thy grave, Purified, by suffering here, Him, thy guileless soul will save; Adieu, good bye, but not farewell, The parting is but brief, Our love for you no words can tell, Nor sorrow nor our grief. A christian mother, a loving wife, We've closed her eyes in death, No, 'tis not death, but only life, That surely conquers death. The funeral will be at St. Ann's Catholic Church at two o'clock on Sunday evening.
