RAPIER – Julia M. Rapier, 94, passed away Thursday February 24, 2011 in Jacksonville, FL. For more than 35 years she was a registered member and Eucharistic Minister of San Jose Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Saint Augustine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women; a member of the San Jose Parish Council of Catholic Women, and volunteered at the San Jose Parish School office for many years. She was a member of the Jacksonville Memorial Hospital Medical Center Auxiliary with over 12, 000 hours and 30 Years of service. She was a long time participant in the Kairos Prison Ministry. In 1995 Julia and her late husband were honored as one of the 12 Who Care on Channel 12 (WTLV). She was a 50 year member of the Rosary-Alter Society of our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood, NJ and had worked at the Valley Hospital and the Cerebral Palsy Center in Ridgewood. Julia was pre-deceased by her husband, John Ekro Jr.; her son, John Ekro III; two sisters, Thomasina Yozzo and Mary Inconiglios; two brothers, Joseph D. Sanzo Jr. and Anthony D. Sanzo, and two sisters-in-law, Nancy Rapier Cirillo and Suzanne Rapier. She is survived by her son, Joseph A. Rapier; daughter-in-law, Joanna of Sacramento, CA; two grandsons, Joseph Jr. of Philadelphia, PA and Christopher of Pittsburgh, PA; two step granddaughters, Oletha Garrett and Candice Kulp of Roseville, CA; a step grandson, Aaron Stefl of Citrus Heights, CA; a step great grandchild, Gabryal;, two sisters-in-law, Angela Sanzo of Lake Luzerne, NY, Irene Rapier of Louisville, KY and a brother-in-law, Louis Rapier of New Braunfels, TX as well as many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 3, 2011 at San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Rd, Jacksonville, FL with Bishop John J. Snyder D.D., Celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount at Jacksonville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at San Jose Catholic Church with a Rosary at 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations to Community Hospice of Northeast FL, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 or San Jose Catholic Church.
