Dr. Mudd, of New Haven, who attended the sick for over 64 years, has died at age 93. Dr. Mudd was the last of a passing generation, the country doctor, who traveled thousands of miles in all kinds of weather, first in a horse and buggy and later, by automobile to serve the sick and deliver thousands of babies. His death occurred at a Louisville nursing home, where he had been a patient for 2 1/2 years. Until 5 years ago, when an accident forced his retirement, he had practiced medicine from an office in his home on Main Street in New Haven. He was a philosopher as well as a physician with a dry sense of humor with strong beliefs, which he did not hesitate to voice and a modesty to vell his success of the great contributions he had made to the wide area he served. Upon the death of his father who served as assistant surgeon in the confederate army, the family moved to Cherry Hill farm near Springfield. He went to St Marys college in St Marys, Ky for two years, then to the medical school at the U of Ky in Louisville where he graduated in 1904. Both of his sons followed in his footsteps, graduating from the same school. Dr. Mudd practiced for one year in Howardstown, before moving on to New Haven, where he practiced for 63 years. Dr. Mudd married in 1908 to Estelle Howard and to this union were born 2 sons and 8 daughters. Mrs. Mudd died in 1958, one month after celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Funeral services were held at St Catherines church in New Haven with a celebrated mass. Internment was at the St Catherines church cemetery, with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
