Tate Edelen Bennett, 87, died Tues., Sept. 14, 2004, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville. A native of Bardstown, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry Edelen Sr. and Leona Rapier Edelen, and the widow of Spencer County horseman and hardware dealer, J. Edward Bennett Sr. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Shelbyville, where she had been a member of the Altar Society. Mrs. Bennett was also a former member, Board of Directors, St. Catharine College, at Springfield, and a great supporter of Caritas. She served on the Board of Nazareth College, Nazareth, KY, and in 1975 served as secretary of the Advisory Board of Community Health Services. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Stephen Foster Outdoor Drama, Bardstown and was active in the Democratic Party and served as Nelson County co-Chairman of the Kennedy for President campaign, 1960. Mrs. Bennett is survived by four sons, James E. Bennett Jr., of Los Angeles, J. A. Bennett, Edward R. "Hoppy" Bennett, and R. H. Bennett, all of Shelbyville; five daughters, Barbara Bennett Branch of Lexington, Mary L. "Noni" Bennett of Shelbyville, Hallie Reiling of Seattle, WA, Susan Bennett of Lexington, and Anne Tate Puljanowski of Edgewood, one brother, Robert H. Edelen of New Albany, IN, and four sisters, Sister Robert Leona of Loretto, Sallie E. McAuliffe of Louisville, Virginia Bennett of Taylorsville, and Dot Herrmann of Louisville. Twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Jack Hardin. Her funeral will be conducted 10:30 am Sat., at the Church of the Annunciation, Shelbyville, with Reverend William Bowling officiating, and entombment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, Louisville. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Thurs., and from 1-8 pm Fri., at the residence, Undulata, 1600 Zaring Mill Road, Shelbyville, KY. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Altar Society of the Church of the Annunciation or the National Parkinson's Foundation.
