Thomas served in the Privaters of the Maryland line during the Revolutionary war. Hence the unofficial title of "captain" (maybe). Thomas also served in the "Corn Stalk" Militia of KY as Lieutenant 2nd Regiment. He enlisted 10 May 1802. He has been accepted as a Son of the American Revolution. (national # 102527,KY State #1518). Thomas was the son of John Bowling & Mary Green. He was married three times, 1st to Ann Nevitt, 2nd Ann Nancy Green, 3rd Eleanor "Ellen" Brown Hutchins. He was the father of 11 children. He is buried next to Ellen.

Ellen was a daughter of Peter Brown & Frances Jarboe. Her 1st husband was John Hutchins who died in 1806. They had 4 children. She married Thomas Bowling in 1807 and they had 5 children together. She is buried next to Thomas.
