Edward Edelen, gentleman, was a planter whose dwelling plantation,
Assington, was located in Newport Hundred, Charles County, Maryland, which he received from his father
Richard Edelen's estate in 1760, in addition to
Truman's Hunting Quarter and
Westwood Lodge. During the Revolutionary War he subscribed to the Patriot's Oath, administered by John Parnham. He died testate with a will dated Oct. 21, 1779 which was proved Mar. 25, 1780, leaving to his wife Susanna the dwelling plantation
Assington, his water mill, and a number of slaves.
