John Hurst, 74, of Bardstown, died Monday, November 24, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Hurst was born November 22, 1934 in Bardstown and was a 1953 graduate of St. Joe Prep. He served in the Kentucky National Guard, was a lifelong farmer and businessman and a former Kentucky State Representative. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish. Preceded in death by: His parents: Clarence and Mary Alice Spalding Hurst; 3 brothers: Collins Hurst, Billie Hurst, and Tom Hurst; and 3 sisters: Jennie Moore Geoghegan, Mary Spalding Clark, and Binnie Swerdfeger. Survived By: 2 sons: Jack Hurst and Mark Hurst, both of Bardstown; 2 daughters: Kim Hurst of Lancaster, and Laura Johnson of Bardstown; 4 grandchildren; and 2 brothers: Harry Hurst and Gam Hurst, both of Cox's Creek. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral. Visitation will be held Friday, November 28, 2008 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held Friday evening at 6:00 pm by Deacon Dick Walsh.

Obituary: Sue DeSpain Hurst, 78, Bardstown
Sue DeSpain Hurst, 78, of Bardstown, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at her home. She was born Dec. 5, 1936, in Louisville and was a homemaker for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hurst and her parents, Charles R. & Virginia Durlauf DeSpain.
Survivors include four children; three sisters; and four grandchildren, all of Bardstown.
The funeral is 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery.
Visitation is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy contributions have been requested to the Hope for Hannah Fund.
