Jonathan lived upon the “Old David Stiles’ Homeplace,” a farm of some 320 acres, most of it fertile bottomland. The house erected by David Stiles burned some twelve or fifteen years ago, (ca. 1880), destroying many pictures of the New Jersey relatives and old family letters.71
