Juanita Joan Bennett, 81, passed away Tuesday, 15 February 2011 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. She was born on February 26, 1929 to the late Albert Nelson and Virginia Frances Thompson Brown.
She was a graduate of the old Nazareth College, now Spalding University. Pursuing a career as a registered nurse, she worked for nearly nineteen years in the Spencer County Health Department and for over fourteen years at Kings Daughters Hospital, later United Medical Center, now Jewish Hospital Shelbyville. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Teri Ann Bennett.
Survivors include her son, her daughter, her two brothers, her two sisters, and her five grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church, with Reverend Scott Wimsett celebrating. Interment will be in Saint Michael Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Friday,

Mr. Bennett was born in Taylorsville, Ky. May 2, 1930 and returned to his Heavenly Father February 17, 2012 in Louisville, Ky.
He was the owner and operator of Bennett's Gas in Taylorsville, where he served on the City Council, Committee for Farm Bureau, Taylorsville Merchants Association, an Air Force veteran and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many positions of responsibility including serving a mission to Scotland with his beloved wife Fay where they started a branch of the church. He was called as a Bishop twice, a branch President three times, High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President, and an Ordinance worker in the Louisville Kentucky Temple.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hallie Bennett; daughter, Teri Bennett; brothers, Warren, Edward and Billy Bennett; sisters, Kass Winkler and Anna Ray Hurst.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 35 years, Fay Bennett; sons, Pat Bennett, Jr. and Troy Gardner (Ina); daughters, Shari Bennett, Tammy Reesor (Kelly) and Sharon Coxe (Paul); fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Bobby (Mary) and Jack (Doris) Bennett; sisters, Bettye Tharpe, Carol Bennett, Helen Downs, JoAnn Bennett and Jean Theobald.
Funeral service will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment at Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville, KY. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 11:30 am until 8:00 pm at Schoppenhorst.
