Hello, I have been researching Zachariah Short of Woodstock, Ulster, New York. I'm distantly related to him. He is a part of the Winne family and I'm adding sources to profiles on Wikitree of Winne's and their descendants.
I have found a few things that need to be corrected on his Findagrave memorial. You have a death date of 16 Apr 1841. This is actually the date the Pension agency was informed of his passing. Zachariah is not on the 1840 census.
The pension document mentions this: Dead: Paid at the Treasury under the Act of the 6 April 1838 from the 4 Sep 1837 to the 9 Feb 1838. Agt. notified 16 April 1841.
From this it appears that he died 9 Feb 1838. He never got any more pension payments after Sept 1837. He was supposed to get on on Mar 1838 and didn't.
From other records, he was in Albany, NY in 1833, probably in an old soldier's home. Then he was transferred to New York City, New York. This is where he died.
