Maple Mount — Sister Jean Madeline Peake, 99, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Oct. 23, 2014, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 75th year of religious life. She was a native of Holy Cross.
Sister Jean Madeline was always joyful and active. An educator for 48 years, she remained beloved by many of her former students. She taught at St. Joseph School, Owensboro (1937-46) and St. Joseph School, Central City (1946-50). She also taught or served as principal elsewhere in Kentucky and in Missouri, and was a parish minister in Leitchfield, from 1996-2002, and she served as director of the craft room at Mount Saint Joseph. After her retirement, she continued to use her gifts as a seamstress to make beautiful quilts for the support of the Ursuline community.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Nun to Celebrate Golden Jubilee
Sister Jean Madeline Peake, OSU, will celebrate her Golden Jubilee on April 9. A reception honoring her 60 years of service as a nun will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Parish Hall in Leitchfield.
Sister Jean Madeline was born in 1915 in Holy Cross, the daughter of John and Nattie Peake, and entered the convent in September 1933. She professed her vows March 19, 1939.
She was a third- and fourth-grade teacher at St. Joseph School in Owensboro from 1937 to 1946 and taught at Central City from 1946 to 1959. Other teaching assignments included Jeffersonville, Ind.; Harrodsburg; and Affton, Mo. She now works with an outreach program to residents of Leitchfield and Grayson County.
Sister Jean Madeline welcomes all her former students to attend the April 9 celebration.
