Jean Ann Peake, Galesburg Chapel 82, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 12:12 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Jean was born October 15, 1930 in Galesburg, the daughter of Frank and Gladys (McDougall) Beck. She married Joseph A. Peake on January 18, 1949 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2012.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Peake of Springfield, Ill. and Rebecca (and Paul) Blystone of Great Falls, Mont., four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Jean spent all her life in Galesburg. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg. She was active in her church, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Women's Guild and also the Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. William Miller will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with the rosary prayed at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Joseph A. Peake, Galesburg Chapel 89 of Galesburg, Ill. died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012 in Marigold Health Care Center.
Joseph was born December 7, 1922 in St. Augustine, Ill., the son of Thomas and Mary Hagan Peake. He married Jean Ann Beck on January 18, 1949 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara Peake of Springfield, Ill. and Rebecca (and Paul) Blystone of Great Falls, Mont.; a brother, Thomas (and Marilyn) Peake of Alexis, Ill.; a sister, Mary (and Lloyd) Heiarr of Clinton, Iowa; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.
Joseph was raised in St. Augustine and Abingdon, before moving to Galesburg in 1949. He attended Abingdon High School, graduating in 1940. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 to 1943. Upon returning from the war, he worked as a mechanic for the Oldsmobile dealership in Galesburg and then became service manager for Fesler's and later Bob Lindsay Honda Toyota.
Joseph was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He also served as treasurer for the American Cancer Society.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel followed by the praying of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
