Age 74 of Abingdon, died at 5:28 am Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at OSF St. francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Don was born on September 25, 1937 in Galesburg, the son of James and Margaret (Leo) Peake. He is survived by his sister, Leanne (and Clinton) Zost of Galesburg and his brother, Fred T. (and Peggy) Peake of Moore, Oklahoma; eight nieces and nephews and many cousins.
He was preceeded in death by his parents.
He graduated for Abingdon High School in 1955. He later graduated from Knox College in 1959 and he then received his Masters and PHD degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He taught at Media High School in Media, Illinois and also at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Illinois. He then taught at Wright Junior College in Chicago. Don was also a professor at St. Mary University in Winona, Minnesota in the Fine Arts and Theatre Departments for 30 years. While at the university, he was instrmental in the design and construction of a major new theatre, He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon and was a former Abingdon Alderman for the City of Abingdon.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 4, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. Father William Miller, I.C. will officaite. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be hed from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel withe the praying of the Rosary at 6:45 pm.
