Albert David Kirkpatrick was the son of David and Catherine Barnett Kirkpatrick and was born in Stanford, Kentucky, in April of 1865. He worked as a conductor and later as a yard master for the Central Illinois Railroad. He married Ida Lee Florence on 16 March 1887 in Hodgenville, KY. The couple had three children, Carl B., Florence Beatrice and Albert Earl.
Ida died in 1897 in Stanford, KY, and the children were sent to live with their grandparents while Albert David worked on the railroad. He listed his residence as Central City in the 1900 census.
On October 27, 1900, he married Flora Grable of Drakesboro, KY, and that is the last official record of him. The children were informed that he had died on a railroad run. No official record of David's death or burial is known his family.

Ida Lee Florence was the daughter of Burr and George Ann Howell Florence. She married Albert David Kirkpatrick on 16 March 1887 in Hodgenville, KY. The couple had three children:
Carl B, Florence Beatrice, and Albert Earl. Ida died in 1897 leaving the three young children to be raised by their father with the help of her parents, his mother and his half-sister.
