William Leslie "Bill" Keene, 90, a retired Bardstown businessman, died
Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, in the Masonic Home in Louisville after an extended
illness. He was a 1936 graduate of St. Joseph Preparatory, an Army veteran of
World War II and was a co-owner of T.F. Keene and Sons farm supply business in
Bardstown until his retirement. Keene and his late brother, Twyman Keene, owned
and operated several farms in the Nelson County area. He was a member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church and served on numerous committees including the
renovation of the church in the mid 1960s. He was a member and past president of
the Bloomfield Lions Club and had served as deputy district governor of the
state of Kentucky Federation of Lions Clubs. Survivors include his wife, Maxine
Wheat Keene; three daughters, Mary Keene, Bardstown, Connie Goodman, Ellenton,
Fla., and Christine Summerfield, Louisville; a son, Les Keene, Bardstown; five
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Bernard "Bernie" Keene,
Bardstown; and a sister, Lettie Clements, Springfield. The funeral will be 3
p.m. Saturday at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with burial in St.
Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the
service. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of
contributions to the Sisters of Charity at Nazareth, Bethlehem High School or to
Hosparus of Louisville. Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home is in charge
