HARVEY BOONE, 27, FATALLY SHOOTS BROTHER, WILLIAM - INFLICTS WOUND WITH .22 RIFLE WHILE BROTHER IS GATHERING CORN - FUNERAL MONDAY.
A shot from a .22 rifle fired by his brother, Harvey, 27 caused the death of William Boone, farmer, near New Haven, Saturday at 6:40 p.m. at St. Joseph's Infirmary, Louisville. He died two days after a bullet had pierced his right side. Harvey, who was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Artie O'Bryan a short time after the shooting Thursday morning, said it was accidental but William, who was conscious after the shooting, stated that it was intentional. The bullet struck William's fifth rib and glanced downward. The elder brother was gathering corn with Emanuel Clark when Harvey, returning from New Hope, stopped at his home and picked up a rifle. He first shot at a door of an outhouse, then at a rabbit, and then came to the field and wounded his brother. The other two bullets in the gun he turned over to Sheriff O'Bryan. After the shooting occurred, Harvey turned and walked home, and Clark took William to his residence. The brothers lived only a short distance apart. Harvey was brought to the Nelson County jail by Sheriff O'Bryan. Also surviving William are his wife, Mrs. Ernie Roberts Boone; five daughters and one son; his father, William Boone; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille Stiltz, Mrs. Nancy Lamkin, and Miss Sadie Boone; another brother, Marion Boone. Funeral services were held Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Vincent's Church, New Hope, Rev. A. L. Shea, the pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
