Frances C. "Frankie" Mattingly, 77, Bardstown, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at her residence. She was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Botland. She was the manager of Bardstown Lanes bowling alley for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sim Augustine Mattingly; her parents, Burr Edward and Anne Florence Beam Coomes; and four brothers, Ed Coomes, Sam Coomes, John Coomes and David Coomes. Survivors include two sons, Sim A. Mattingly, Jr., Vine Grove, and Ed Mattingly, Bloomfield; six daughters, Joan Clemons and Jill Clark, both of Bardstown, Jane Fender, Greenville, Ind., Julia Park, Elizabethtown, Currin Forker, Three Oaks, Mich., and Lee Brenneke, Seattle; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Coomes, Pineville, and Jerry Coomes, Bardstown; three sisters, Edna Earl Yugel, Arizona, and Mary Bill Bauer and Elsie Creek, both of Louisville; and several nieces and nephdws. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with burial in Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Darren Brandon will officiate. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Nelson County. Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Former post employee, Sim A Mattingly, 56, dies
Sim A. Mattingly, Sr., 56, former Bardstown postal employee, died at 10:20 Sunday night, March 19, at Louisville Veterans Hospital. He had been ill about two years and hospitalized several times. His residence was 935 West Broadway. The deceased was employed at the Bardstown Post Office for a number of years. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Prep School and served in the Army in World War II, having overseas duty in Europe. He was the last surviving member of the family of the late Joseph B., Sr., and Ethel Downs Mattingly.
Surviving are six daughters, Jane W. Mattingly, of Louisville; Mrs. Steven (Julie) Park, of Elizabethtown; Mrs. Jackie (Joan) Clemons, Curren, Jill and Lee Mattingly, all of Bardstown; two sons, Sim A. Mattingly, Jr., and Eddie Mattingly, both of Bardstown, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at St. Joseph Church, with the Rev. Richard Edelen, associate pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were John Fogle, Hillary Boone, Julian and Jody Simpson, Harold Searcy and Doc Settles. The body was at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home where a prayer service was conducted at 7:30 Tuesday evening.
