ADRIAN BOONE, 24, NELSON COUNTY WAR VETERAN KILLED BY AUTOMOBILE EARLY SUNDAY ON U. S. 31W - STRUCK WHILE CHANGING TIRE ON WAY HOME FROM LEGION CLUB
A former Nelson Countian, Joseph Adrian Boone, 24, Elizabethtown, was killed instantly early Sunday morning [September 16, 1951] when struck by an automobile as he was changing a tire on his car. He was returning from the American Legion Club, where he had worked Saturday night, when hit by an automobile occupied by a group of Owensboro negroes on 31W south of Elizabethtown. Boone's body was badly crushed from the impact. Injured in the accident was Miss Mildred McMillen, 19, Elizabethtown, an employee of the Legion Club, who was riding in the Boone car. She suffered a fractured jawbone, concussion and scalp lacerations and was taken to St. Joseph Infirmary, Louisville, where her condition was termed serious but not critical. ... A veteran of World War II, Boone served in the Army for three years. He lived in Elizabethtown before he entered service and returned there after he was discharged. He was an employee of the Pate Motor Company, and a graduate of St. Charles High School, St. Mary. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Boone; his mother, Mrs. Beatrice Boone, New Haven; four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Paul Bowling, Howardstown; Mrs. Wallace Bowling, Louisville; Misses Wanda and Betty and Leland Boone. (Burial at Howardstown) The body was at the Greenwell Funeral Home at New Haven. Funeral services were held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with Requiem Mass at St. Ann Church, Howardstown, with Rev. John Bancroft officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
