NEW HAVEN - BOWLING, MARTIN J., 86, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown, KY. He was a native of Nelson County, a farmer and a partner in the old Bowling and Cecil Marathon Distributors at New Haven. He was a life long member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and the Altar Society, a former member of the church parish council, the Kentucky Farm Bureau, and a US Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Nick and Irene Boone Bowling; a sister, Sr. Janette Bowling, O.S.U.; three brothers, Fr. George K. Bowling, Fr. Robert Bowling, and Paul "Bill" Bowling; and a great grandson, Jackson Paul Veirs. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Marguerite Blair Bowling; seven daughters, Doris Rust (Alan), New Haven, Katharine Marsee (Rick), Elizabethtown, Mary Alice Suare (Danny), Atlanta, GA, Nancey Couch (Ned), Mt. Washington, Jeanette Holmes and Pamela Bowling both of Bardstown, Rosemary Luckett (Terry), Shepherdsville; four sons, Kenneth Bowling (Becky), Elizabethtown, James Marion Bowling (Suellen), Lexington, John Carroll Bowling (Lora), New Haven, David Bowling (Mary Ann), Versailles; two sisters, Mary Louise Bowling, Louisville and Marietta Blanford, Radcliff; 29 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Friday at his church, Rev. Michael Tobin, celebrant, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home, 324 E. Center St., New Haven. Altar Society Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Thursday and Vigil Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mass of the Air, 508 Breckinridge Lane, Louisville, KY, 40207 or Food for the Poor.
