John Boone, 79, of 252 Pratt St., died Thursday after a long illness. He was the great-grandson of Daniel Boone.
Born in New Haven, Ky., Mr. Boone was one of the last direct descendants of Daniel Boone. John Boone had lived in Meriden for 54 years and was a retired employee of the Packer Machine Co. He was a veteran of World War I having served in the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Laurent's Church and a member of Silver City Council of the Veterans of World War I, Barracks 2479.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine Whitfield Boone, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Mitchel, of Arleta, Calif.; a granddaughter, Mrs. William Morgan, also of California; and one great-granddaughter.
Besides the descendants of John Boone, there are six sons and three daughters, children of John's younger brother, Daniel, who died in Kentucky last year.
The funeral will be held Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Smith Funeral Home, 226 West Main St., and at 9 a.m. at St. Laurent's Church. Burial will be in St. Laurent's Cemetery.
