Misc. Notes
Martha Steinbock Pike, 89, of Louisville, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016.
She was born Christmas Day, 1926, to the late Clarence and Mary Steinbock. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert; son, John; and sisters, Virginia Bischoff and Anne Heimbrock.
Martha is survived by her children, Anne Greene (Joe), Robert L. Pike, Jr. “Bob” (Linda), Karen Gentry (Mike), Don “Donnie” Pike, Mary Lou “Merney” Green (Martin), and James “Bippy” Pike; brothers, Clarence C. Steinbock, Jr. “Bocker” and Thomas C. Steinbock; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Martha was a Mercy graduate, nomadic Catholic, champion speller, La Leche Leaguer, Robben’s Roost regular, jigsaw and crossword puzzler, card player, ’37 flood survivor, brass band concertgoer, frequent fish fry attendee, Jeopardy enthusiast, and avid bird watcher. She made a point to keep in touch with childhood friends, loved spending time with her family, and retained her humor and wit to the end. She was perhaps most proud of being mother to seven children and wife to Bob. Martha touched the lives of many, as evidenced by the way her home and her hospital room often resembled, as she would have put it, “Grand Central Station”.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Hosparus, St. Joseph's Orphanage, or donations in her memory may be made supporting her passion and aiding her family's fight toward ending cancer, in care of PNC Bank.
