WOODMAN, Elizabeth R. "Betty"
Passed away Sunday morning, November 6, 2005 at Lakeview Continuing Care Center in Lawton. Betty was born January 22, 1912 in Duluth, MN, the daughter of the late Axel and Teresa (DeSanto) Johnson. She was a graduate of Duluth Central High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Public Health Nursing. Following graduation she came to Southwest Michigan on a Kellogg Foundation grant and worked for the Van Buren and Allegan County Health Departments. On August 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to Jonathan S. Woodman in Duluth, MN, and then returned to live on Diversity Farms in Paw Paw, where they had a large fruit farm. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw, Lakeview Hospital Auxiliary, the Paw Paw Coterie Club and the Van Buren County Mental Health Board. Betty loved life, and was always ready for new experiences. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan on November 9, 1996; and a brother, Robert Johnson. Surviving are 2 daughters, Martha Stiles of Atlanta, GA, and Judi Woodman of Sacramento, CA; 2 grandchildren, Robert and Michael Stiles; niece, Mary Kay Johnson; 2 nephews, Todd and Dustin Johnson. Cremation has taken place with interment of cremains in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Paw Paw. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw, with Rev. Tom Abbott officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kellogg Foundation or the Van Buren Youth Camp.
