Mrs. Mary J. Owens, wife of Jesse B. Owens, 446 South Water street, died at 3:50 o'clock Sunday morning at St. Mary's hospital. She was seventy years old last May. Her death was caused by bronchial pneumonia and followed an illness of one week.
Mrs.Owens maiden names was Mary J. Johnson. She was born in Knightstown, Ind. May 1858. She and Jesse B. Owens were married July 4, 1875. The family moved to Decatur from Shelbyville thirty-nine years ago. Beside her husband, she is survived by the following children: George W. and Frank B. Owens and Mrs. Goldie Lindsay, all of Decatur. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Sarah Holland of Shelbyville and a granddaughter, Winifred I. Lindsay of Decatur.
The body was taken to Moran & Sons funeral directors. Friends may call at the chapel.
