Misc. Notes
By the request of the brethern of our church at Bewleyville I write a short notice of the death of a dear sister who fell asleep in Jesus on the 27th day of September 1865, Miss Martha A. Hall aged 22 years 3 months and 23 days. She became a member of our church only a short time before her death. Truly this is a warning to her surviving friends especially the young "to work while it is yet day, least the night cometh when no man can work." We had been friends from childhood and I have ever looked upon the example she set as being worthy of imitation, kind and gentle in her manners, amiable in disposition and having a high regard for Christianity. We do not claim perfection for her, that alone is of God. She bore her affliction with great patience and seemed perfectly resigned to the will of God in all things. Often during her sickness she would express a desire to be at home with Jesus. It seemed that death had no terror for her. She regarded it but a happy transition from this vale of tears to a brighter purer world above. And while we weep and sigh for the absent one we delight so much to meet we feel & hope that our loss is her everlasting gain. That she is gone to the glorious city whose builder and maker is God. May we be resigned to His heavenly will and be prepared by his grace to meet in a better word.
