oseph Thurman Spalding, 78, Louisville, formerly of Howardstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at the Masonic Home of Louisville. He was a native of Howardstown, a U.S. Army veteran, a union pipe fitter by trade belonging to Pipe Fitters Union Local 502 and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Catherine Bryan Spalding; three brothers, Barth Spalding, Leo Spalding and Raphael Spalding; and a sister, Joan Schyler.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Miller Spalding; two daughters, Cathy Rosenfeld, Charlotte, N.C., and Chris Knoerr, Louisville; four sons, Hugh Spalding, St. Louis, Bryan Spalding, Dallas, Jerry Spalding, Lexington, and Carroll Spalding, Louisville; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Hugh Spalding, Springfield, Edwin Spalding, Howardstown, and Sheeran Spalding, Lexington; and three sisters, Christine Sims, Frankie Lesousky and Juanita Jonczy, all of Louisville.
The funeral will be 11 am. Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Howardstown, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ken Fortner will officiate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday including a prayer service at 3 p.m., and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville.
