FORMER NEW HAVEN RESTAURANT OWNER SUCCUMBS AT 54 - MITCHELL "SCORCHIE" GREENWELL, 54, a native of New Haven, and former restaurant operator there, died at 2:15 p.m. Monday, October 19, at Mary Immaculate Infirmary, Lebanon. He was admitted to the infirmary Saturday after he suffered a stroke of paralysis two months ago. The son of the late Matt and Lena Smith Greenwell, he had spent all his life at New Haven. Surviving are two sons, Lee Greenwell and Joe Henry Greenwell, both of New Haven; three sisters, Mrs. Chester (Lucille) McQuillen and Mrs. Raymond (Mary Agnes) O'Bryan, both of New Haven; Mrs. Harold (Beatrice) Mattingly, St. Francis; two brothers, Joseph K. Greenwell, Louisville; J. B. Greenwell, New Haven; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine's Church, New Haven. Interment will be in St. Catherine Cemetery. The body is at the Greenwell Funeral Home, New Haven, where members of the St. Catherine Parish recited prayers at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Billy Morris, Charles Plouvier, Edward Bryan, Homer Greenwell, Jerry Humphrey, and Leo Hagan.
