Edward Ray Robertson of Gates, NC, age 69, went to be with the Lord July 6, 2018.
He was born January 6, 1949 in Brownfield, TX to Carl Edward Robertson and Euralee Fern (Stucker) Robertson.
He joined the Army November 19, 1970 – September 1, 1973.
On May 18, 1973, he married Laura Talkington. Together they had two daughters, Christi and Misty.
He attended Waxahachie Southwestern Assemblies of God University for 2 years studying the Gospel.
He rejoined the Army April 28, 1976 and served until September 2, 1988. He spent a lot of that time in Germany supervising and operating the motor pool.
His interests and hobbies included traveling, playing chess, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed collecting knives and baseball caps. As an avid football enthusiast his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He was proud of his 15 years of service in the Army and a lifetime member of the DAV. He loved to make people laugh and could ease even the most serious situation. He also enjoyed sharing his faith and praying for others.
Survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Laura; daughters, Christi (Chris) and Misty (Chris); 6 grandchildren, Honoria (Zach), Kayla, Shauna, Logan, Alana, and Spencer; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and grandson Skyler. He will be remembered for his easy going teasing nature.
Viewing will be held July 13, 2018 from 11 AM to 12:30 PM and R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow the viewing at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
A reception will be held at his favorite restaurant, Cracker Barrel at 4700 Portsmouth Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23321 after burial.
