Lum was born in Bardstown, Kentucky and graduated Bardstown High School in 1947. He married Priscilla Brown in 1948 and they had two children. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1960, was a bank executive and enjoyed playing golf.
He was survived by his two children, two sisters, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Lum had lockjaw as a child and survived.

Priscilla was the daughter of Norbourne Brown and Dorothy Marattay. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky and married Lum Barnes in 1948. They had two children and spent a good part of their married life in Ohio.
BARNES, Priscilla age 75, of Kettering, formerly of Louisville, KY, passed away Wednesday, August, 9, 2006 at her home. Preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Anderson. Survived by her husband, C.R. "Lum" Barnes of 57 years; son, Mike (Mary) Barnes, of Akron, OH; daughter, Virginia Barnes, of TN; grandchildren, Kate, Chris and Meredith Barnes, of Akron, and Courtney and Kyle, of TN. The family requests no services. Burial in Bardstown Cemetery, Bardstown, KY.
