Naval intelligence officer there during the Korean War.
Frank Scruby, a beloved husband and father, a prominent lawyer and real estate developer in Clay county, and a successful restaurateur, passed away on Nov 15, 2007. Born in 1926 to Lahlia and Frank Scruby in Birmingham, AL, he grew up in Oklahoma and Florida.
He served in the US Navy as an officer on a destroyer in the Pacific following WWWII and as an intelligence officer during the Korean War (Conflict). A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he played in the first Gator Bowl in 1946. He earned his law degree from the University of Miami in 1957 and soon after moved his young family to Orange Park where he practiced law for the next 47 years.
In addition to his private law practice, he served as assistant attorney general, assistant state attorney, attorney for Clay County, and longtime attorney for the Clay County School Board.
An avid golfer and sports fanatic, he traveled frequently and was a member of Timuquana Country Club since 1967. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Green Cove.
He is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 55 years and their five children: Shannon Henderson (Jeff), Robert Scruby (Mary), Mark Scruby, Lynn McPhail (Carl), and Jennifer Ryshawy (Alex). He was dearly loved by his 11 grandchildren: Christopher (Julie) and Alex Henderson; Lauren, Ryan, Ted, Stephen and Sarah Scruby; Michael and Jay McPhail; and Miranda and Nicholas Ryshawy.
The family will receive friends at a vigil on Monday, Nov 19 from 6-9 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Green Cove Springs, with Father Donal Sullivan officiating. A funeral mass and luncheon will follow on Tuesday, Nov 20 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to
