Misc. Notes
Son of Mrs. Irene Boone who resided in Covington, Kentucky.

Joseph served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner (WAist Gunner) on B-24G "Dallas Lady" #42-78243, 831st Bomber Squadron, 485th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kenton County, Kentucky prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 18, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a typist and also as Single, without dependents.

The "Dallas Lady", which took off from Maison Blanche, Algeria, was reportedly on a secret mission to drop supplies to the Italian Resistance at DZ “Mockingbird” in the vicinity of Crescentino in Northern Italy. It is unclear if they completed their mission to drop the supplies or not.

The "Dallas Lady", due to navigation errors & adverse weather, crashed into the Corne de Bouc mountain near Fontan, France during the war. The entire crew was lost on this mission.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in the Fontan, France Cemetery and was later repatriated here on May 3, 1949.

Service # 35469236

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
