Daisy Howell Bates, of Franklinton, Louisiana, died December 4, 2007, born December 7, 1917, in Larue County, Hodgenville, Kentucky, the daughter of Fred Howell and Lottie Skaggs Howell. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, James Willard Day of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and George Edward Bates of Clarksville, Tennessee, four brothers Otis, Austin, Walter, and Fred, one sister Martha Clanton and one grandson Phillip Sonnier.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Fred Day Lee and husband Bob of Monticello, Arkansas, Bonnie Day Trueil and husband Clifford of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Ellen Bates Sonnier and husband Karl of Dallas, Texas, two sisters Ruby Moore of Middleton, Ohio, Nancy Burba of Hodgenville, Kentucky, and a brother Paul Howell of Lexington, Kentucky, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

“Ms. Mike”, as she was known, was a long time resident of Franklinton. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and loved her church family dearly. She was an educator and taught Special Education for many years in Washington Parish. She was a graduate of St. Catherine Academy and Junior College in Springfield, Kentucky and Southeastern Louisiana University.
Her hobbies were playing Bridge, following PGA tournaments on TV, watching and feeding Hummingbirds, and visiting with her many friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed the Washington Parish Fair and was proud of being selected for the “Fast Interview” by her local newspaper.

A visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, December 10, 2007 beginning at 9 AM with a Mass to follow at 11 AM with Father Peter Hammett officiating. Interment at the Abbey in Covington, Louisiana, under the direction of Crain Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church in Franklinton, or a favorite charity.
