Max A. Schlesinger of the Savoy Plaza Hotel, head of International Variety and Theatrical Agency. Inc., United states representative of the Schlesinger industrial organization of South Africa, died Monday in Doctors Hospital, after an illness of several months. The Schlesinger organization of South Africa, which was founded by his brother, Isadore W. Schlesinger, who died in 1949. includes 450 theatres and banks, hotels, departnlent stores, insurance and real estate companies and citrus groves. Isadore's son. John, heads the organization.
He had been active in the operation of the Schlesinger group of South African theatres. A pioneer in the promotion of talking pictures in their early days, he had been active in General Talking Pictures, which marketed DeForest Photophone Films. He was a Mason, a member of the knights of Pythias, the Motion Picture Pioneers and Foundation of the Motion Picture Pioneers, and the Mutual Benevolent Society of 1865.
