Misc. Notes
Our mother, Joan Howard Smith died on February 15th, 2014. Joan was born November 4, 1938 to Paul and Pearl Hendren Howard and grew up in the quaint little town of New Haven KY. Our grandfather operated the general store in New Haven for over fifty years and raised eleven children of which our mother was the second oldest.

Joan attended St. Catherine's High School in New Haven and graduated from Nazareth College in Bardstown, KY. In 1961 she married her high school sweetheart Reginald (Reggie) Smith and they had four sons, Michael Smith (Ann), Patrick Smith, Stephen Smith (Lisa), Christopher Smith (Suzie)

Large families are full of life; that life included joy, hope, sadness and challenges throughout the years. For our parents, sadness came early with the death of our brother Pat at the age of three. Our mother was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and most important to her was her large and loving family. Along with her strong faith and kind heart, our mother had a strength and a sense of duty that never waivered.

Joan buried both her parents, her brothers Julian and Jerry Howard and after 40 years of marriage her husband Reggie died as she held him in her arms. She loved all her friends at the Parish House and could not have imagined life with out her brothers and sisters, Jean Downs, Janice Vittitow, Paul Howard Jr., Joseph Howard, John Howard, Jane Cross, Joyce Howard, and Jeff Howard.

Joan loved her grandchildren the MOST, Sarah, Katie, Megan, Drew, Madison, Regan, Audrey, and Mollie Smith

We will celebrate her life with a funeral Mass to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at St. Joseph's Proto Cathedral, Bardstown, KY, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckinridge Ln, Louisville, KY.

We will miss you mom.
