“When I was in Kentucky on a visit some years ago, Mr. Cassity (owner of the RAPIER house near Bardstown) gave me the top of a tombstone, no markings apparent, which had been found on the property. I took it home and have it in my garden here in Chappaqua. It is no doubt a part of the tombstone of either the Captain (Richard James Rapier) or his wife, Margaret. Nothing else has been found. Aunt Tate remembers the graveyard as a child and her parents (my grandparents) lived in the 1800 house for the first ten years of their marriage, but then moved into Bardstown (around 1890) and sold the property. Aunt Tate has the stone bench which I believe was originally in the little graveyard.” – Helene Thompson Rapier.
