'Greatest Show On Earth'43
The World Series is over, and I am sure was enjoyed by millions all over the world. This is the greatest show on earth. Our U. of K. basketball coach made a statement not too long ago that baseball was losing its popularity and was on its way out. Out where, may I ask? In my estimation basketball is more or less a kindergarten game compared to baseball. Baseball is everybody's game, and to become a professional you've really got to be a he-man. I'd like to ask the U. of K. coach if he ever heard of a professional basketball player drawing $100.000-a-year salary. I realize this game does require a lot of skill and practice, and, above all, it helps to develop good baseball players. So the U. of K. coach can keep right on training them and maybe later some will become professional baseball heroes.

Would 'shift the burden'44
“Now is the time for the young boys 17 to 27 years old to organize (worldwide) and refuse to fight an undeclared, illegal war. This Vietnam War has slaughtered over 40,000 of our young kids, and has cost the tax-payers billions of dollars. We haven't accomplished one thing. If we have to have a war to keep the economy going, let some of these greedy, money-hungry war mongers and politicians do the fighting. Perhaps some would jump out windows if they had to go.”
