Baptized John Hunter Mattingly, Nov. 9, 1862, by Father Truyens(?) at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Birth date, June 25, 1862. Sponsor, Mary Ellen Mattingly. Parents: John Mattingly and Kate Bowman.

He and Hallie are found on the 1910 census of St. Louis, Missouri with their son. Hunter and his wife are on the 1920 census of Joachim, Jefferson County, Missouri but without children. The 1930 census shows Hunter and Hallie in Dowling Park, Suwanee County, Florida.

His death certificate #26104 does not specify a place of death but I am told he died in Florida. The certificate is on file in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a retired farmer and married; residence #2 Chambers Road, St. Louis; wife named as Hallie B. Mattingly but parents unknown. Informant was Barak Mattingly. Cause of death listed as heart failure due to malnutrition and heart disease. Buried at Hiram Cemetery, St. Louis County, Missouri.

Betsy Stiles Hall remembers visiting Hunter & Hallie, and that they were shabily dressed like poor farmers.
