I am glad your mom remembers him. The Beams all had rambling blood in them.  I am not sure when he moved back to Kentucky.  I ask my brother questions, but sometimes he gets confused.  Yes, he did stay with relatives. My father was reading the Courier one day, and saw a picture of him sitting on Jefferson County Court House steps. No one knew he was in Louisville.  Our house was built in 1936 and he died in 1944. My family kept every letter, card and scrap of paper. I read a letter from Uncle John to Nanny telling her that he couldn't send any money for Poppy's upkeep. My family also liked to change stories or history to which ever suited them at any given moment. According to Nanny, Poppy inherited a Beam farm on Woodlawn, but Mommie wouldn't live there, because her name wasn't included. My mother said in that time, no wife's name was on important papers. The poor house was built on this farm and this is where he died. It is now American Greetings factory. I don't know if any of this is true. I have also heard, Nanny kicked him out because he had a girlfriend. Nanny was a strict Baptist, so that may be true. - Rebecca Brothers
