Elsie Greenup Jourdan, in her book "Early Families of Southern Maryland, Vol. 1. indicates this John Cissell married Susannah Thompson, and "inherited land father inherited from his father and Scotland"; slaves from brother James, and request that he care for Monica Payne and James Cissell's children until age 16. This indicates he must have had two families, and married Susannah when he was nearly 50.
