Nace, Jim Thompson and Bob Birch assalted and shot a black man, Wash Howard, in his home near Athertonville. Wash died the next day. Family lore says that Nace fled the country never to be heard from. Years later, a man from California came to Kentucky and said that when his father in CA died they found in his papers that his true name was Nace Thompson and he had assumed an alias and had a family in CA.58

1860 Census is the last reference for him in Larue Co., KY.

Possibly died in 1908, and buried at St. Catherine Cemetery, New Haven, KY.
