It is said that Nace and another man beat up black man who later died. Nace fled the country never to be heard from. Years later, a man from California came to Kentucky and said that when his father in CA died they found in his papers that his true name was Nace Thompson and he had assumed an alias and had a family in CA.49

Possibly died in 1908, and buried at ST. Catherine Cemetery, New Haven, KY.
